In the French region of Brittany, from 22 to 28 May 2017, one of the most significant European maritime, cultural and tourist events is taking place in the Gulf of Morbihan (“little sea” in Breton) – maritime festival “Week of the Gulf of Morbihan” (La semaine du Golfe du Morbihan) that gathers ships of all sizes, uses and specific traditions: rowing boats, old fishing boats, old motor boats, traditional multi-mast sail-boats, classic and modern yachts… As in the last edition of the festival, Croatia i.e. Dalmatia is again invited as a guest within the festival’s “European Maritime Heritage Village” with Italy, represented by the regions of Emilia-Romagna and Lake Maggiore, France with representatives of Occitania and Provence, Netherlands, Ireland and the Basque Country.

In the largest city of the region, Vannes, our naval crafts, fishing skills, traditional cuisine and authentic products will be presented. We are particularly pleased to announce that the famous naval culture of Stari Grad will be presented with the photographic exhibition created by the Stari Grad Museum for this occasion, while the director of the Museum prof. Aldo Čavić will hold a lecture titled Maritime Heritage of Stari Grad on the island of Hvar. The Stari Grad Festival Days in the Bay, which will be held again in September this year, will also be presented on this occasion. The festival will also include the Palagruža Association from Komiža, which will present the traditional Komiža sandula, as part of a children’s workshop they will build the Komiža gundula, while Velimir Lojpur from Split will exhibit his models of traditional ships.

Dalmatia’s participation programme at the Week of the Gulf of Morbihan 2017 has been designed and coordinated with the French organisers by the Cronaves association from Split, the organisers of the Stari Grad’s festival Days in the Bay.
