We invite you to the opening of the exhibition ing. Vanja Žanko – Winery in Stari Grad from 1948 to 1960 on Tuesday, 14 August at 8.30pm in Stari Grad Museum. The exhibition will run until 14 September.
The winery in Stari Grad is one of the finest examples of industrial architecture from the time of post-war reconstruction, and at the the time of opening it was the most modern winery on the Croatian territory. The idea of building the winery, as well as the supervision and direction of the construction, were the authorship of the agronomist Vanja Žanko, pre-war Parisian student, a broadly educated engineer, with a pronounced talent for photography and film.
Exhibition of photographs by Vanja Žanko follows the period of construction of the winery, as well as the first processing of grapes in the newly opened winery. They range from 1948 do 1960 when his vision became complete. The spirit of enthusiasm and optimism of the postwar period is evident in these photographs.
A documentary about Stari Grad and island Hvar island from the end of the 1950s, by the same author, is a valuable ethnographic record of the life of the island before mass tourism.
We look forward to your visit!
