The exhibition Sweet Water by artist Gloria Oreb engages with water as matter, symbol, and mode of being. The exhibition embodies the cycles, fluidity, and interdependencies of water through textile flags that float and move installed in space near different bodies of water – by rivers, on the open sea, on islands, between trees, or within gallery spaces. Here, water is not only a motif but an ontological presence: cyclical, elusive, yet omnipresent. The flags, made of raw fabric printed with pencil and ink drawings, disrupt the rigidity of traditional painting canvases just as the ink washes in the drawings disrupt the firmness of the pencil line. Ink spreading on paper is not just an aesthetic choice, it is the trace of process, resembling the capillary diffusion of liquid through porous boundaries. This gradual spreading evokes the hydrological cycle: infiltration, saturation, purification, evaporation – everything that water is and does. The drawings evoke cellular structures, tidal maps, thalassography, primordial waters, traces of organic living systems, birds, trees, fungi, mythological and cosmic symbols, while the flags breathe, moving with the wind, and echoing the motion of water – never fixed, always in flow.
