[IN MEMORIAM] Magda Dulčić (1965 – 2016)

Magda died. Astral creature who came down to Earth. It looked at this world with is its tiny, wondering eyes, trying to understand it and make it more beautiful and better with its imagination, by its own stellar extent. In the end she gave up and returned to interstellar space where she really belong. Magda died.

This is her earthly biography:
Magda Dulčić was born in 1965 in Stari Grad on island Hvar. She graduated from the School of Applied Arts in Split. She illustrated books, textbooks and children’s books and picture books for many small and large publishing houses in Croatia. Her comics and illustrations were published in Patak, Polet, Večernji list, Studentski list, Comicon and Arkzin, as well as in magazines for children Oblutak and Prvi izbor. She has participated in all major exhibitions of comics in Croatia and had numerous solo exhibitions.

In 1996, for Animafest in Zagreb she made a notable festival trailer, and at the Day of Croatian Animation in 2005 for »Perpetuum stabile« she won the second prize.
She directed and animated »The Rose«, »Dream Land«, »The young man with roses« and »The Loner’s Garden«, in the film »Kamov« she participates as an animator and cartoonist with a group of authors. In 2004, in collaboration with writer Zvonko Todorovski she finishes the cycle of three short, one-minute animated films »Perpetuum stabile« for Zagreb film and a part of the film »Eye« by multimedia group »Divlje oko«. In 2007, she made one-minute animated film for younger children »How The Rain Was Made«, then completed a five-minute »Yearning«, and in 2008 seven-minute »Lunar ark« and the Animafest trailer.

Stari Grad, Rudina, Stari Grad and Žukova bays, olive groves and vineyards, our island, our little world was enough to create the universe by drawing. In this universe she encased her life and artistic partner Zvonko, writer and cartoonists, another being who tryed to be of this world, and belonged to the other. For them, common years have been years of feverish beauty of joint creation. Zvonko escaped 5 years ago (at the age of 50), and Magda is now catching up with him in her 51st. Sail nicely through the blue accompanied by seagulls.
